Surgery Consultation Q & A

What happens during a surgery consultation?

A surgery consultation is a discussion that is had before  the surgery is to be performed. During this time the patient can discuss any questions or concerns which they may have regarding the upcoming operation. Questions or concerns that may arise are benefits, risks, alternatives, and the procedure itself as well as the aftercare involved. Dr. Montalvo will also discuss whether you will need physical therapy, or other advanced care, following the operation. Details will vary depending on the surgical procedure being performed. Patients are encouraged to be candid during the consultation to ensure that they feel prepared and ready for the operation.

What should I bring to the consultation?

For your initial consultation with Dr. Montalvo you should bring:

  • A referral letter from a physician if required
  • Driver’s license or a valid ID
  • Insurance information
  • Medical records, X-rays, MRIs, CT scans etc. and any additional information
  • List of medications and supplement being taken
  • A list of questions or concerns

What is second opinion surgery?

Along with a surgery consultation, Dr. Montalvo offers a second opinion surgery consultation. The second opinion will offer you a fresh viewpoint from a trained professional in his field, other than that of your regular doctor. This second opinion can help you make a more informed decision about your care. A second opinion can be especially helpful if your doctor says you need surgery to diagnose or treat a health problem that is not an emergency. During the visit for a second opinion, Dr. Montalvo may ask what surgery you are considering, what tests you have already had, and your main questions or concerns. Getting a second opinion doesn't mean you have to change doctors. You choose which doctor you want to do your surgery. If you have any questions or need to schedule a consultation with the doctor, contact the office today.
